Shadow Vessel
A shadow vessel is a separate support vessel that travels with or near a yacht to carry equipment, crew, supplies, and operational capacity that the main yacht does not want to keep onboard. In superyacht use, it functions as an extension of the primary vessel rather than as the main guest platform.
A shadow vessel often carries tenders, water toys, spare parts, extra fuel, provisions, dive gear, security staff, or even helicopter support arrangements. This lets the main yacht preserve guest space, reduce clutter on deck, and operate with more flexibility during longer voyages or remote cruising.
The term is sometimes confused with chase boat or tender, but the scale and purpose are different. A chase boat is usually smaller and guest-facing, while a shadow vessel is built around support, storage, logistics, and endurance. For larger programs, it can change how the whole yacht operation is planned.
