First glimpse at redesign of classic 36m Heesen yacht Opus II

April 22, 2025

The first renderings of the 35.9-metre Heesen superyacht Opus II – now renamed Red Phoenix – have been revealed. The classic build is undergoing an 18-month refit at KRM Yacht, with Turkish studio Red Yacht Design leading the exterior and interior redesign.

The refit aims to enhance the Heesen with modern technology while still preserving her “historical charm”, with Red Yacht Design managing partner Fatih Surekli calling the project a “design rebirth”. The latest renderings reveal a brand-new hardtop, a sharp grey exterior and large glass surfaces on both the hull and superstructure.

“[Red Phoenix] is about more than aesthetics – it is about capturing a new spirit,” Surekli explained. “We’ve reshaped every curve, expanded every living space and added features that reflect how today’s owners want to live and entertain.”

The transom is being redesigned to include an extension that can accommodate a three-metre swimming pool, as is the sundeck which now features a new Jacuzzi, dining area, bar and multiple sunbathing zones. At the bow, a new seating area has been installed for an “additional layer of comfort and versatility”.

Interior areas have also been restructured to increase the guest cabin number from three to five and enlarge the cabin portholes, though the new design proposal is yet to be unveiled.

Delivered in 1997, Opus II was originally designed by Francesco Paszkowski and Evan K. Marshall, on exterior and interiors respectively. Accommodation is for up to six guests across three suites with further quarters for six crew.

“Rebuilding is not only a sustainable choice but also a cost-effective solution for clients,” said the yard’s managing director, Kerem Başer. “By merging modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, KRM Yacht enhances the performance of classic yachts while preserving their historical value and the memories they hold.”
