KRM Yacht Refit & Repair has shared a refit update on details of the 29-metre Heesen motor yacht Newal. The classic 1988 yacht entered the Istanbul-based refit and repair yard on 1 January this year with an expected completion date of March 2023.
Newal is more than half-way through her substantial 15-month refit that will see her receive a completely new interior, modification of her exterior areas and an extension of around 3.6-metres to her stern.
The Heesen yacht sat unattended at the Tuzla-based marina for around two years; “Approximately one year ago, an architect called our main office and wanted a meeting to discuss rebuilding an old Heesen that was lying in our marina” Kerem Baser, Managing Director of KRM Yacht, commented.
The architect met with Kerem Baser the day after and told him that his client had purchased Newal and wanted to restore her to her former glory. “When I found out that the owner wanted to rebuild her to make her brand new I was so excited! We shared the same energy about this beautiful lady, and after a one hour meeting we were all just as excited for her new story to begin!” Baser added.
Newal currently has accommodation for up to eight guests across four staterooms. She is also able to carry a crew of five.
Newal will receive a complete overhaul of her engines and pumps as well as a rebuild of her electrical infrastructure. She will also see changes to her exterior with a new paint job and the enlargement of all of her windows, including the portholes.
Newal was originally launched in 1988 from Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands with her exterior design and naval architecture originally penned by Mulder Design. Her new refit will see her upper deck lengthened alongside a new transom area with a swimming platform.
She will also receive a new hardtop and flybridge area with the addition of a lounge area and wetbar. “It has been nine months now and we are still on track after sticking to our original plan. Newal has really started to take shape now, and every stage is making us so much more excited!”
